Announcements:

  1. For changes to the Faculty of Graduate Studies Thesis & Dissertation regulations concerning printed copies of exam committees, visit: http://gradstudies.yorku.ca/current-students/thesis-dissertation/oral-examination/ Also, click here for instructions for York University’s Dropbox to assist you on sharing large files.
  2. If you have passed your second term and are completing an MRP or Thesis, or if you are a Doctoral student and have passed your sixth term, please be sure to complete a Supervisor & Supervisory Committee Approval form and submit it to the graduate program office immediately. Please find further details on the checklists.
  3. Summer 2019 enrollment opened March 5th. Please be sure to check the important dates page to ensure you register on time.

  5. Attention regarding advertisement of final oral exam: Oral exams are normally a public academic event, however if the student and the supervisor prefer not to have the exam public, they must inform the Graduate Office in Education upon submission of the Recommendation for Oral Examination form.

Convocation

  1. DEADLINE HAS PASSED: The deadline to apply to graduate in June 2019 passed on February 28, 2019.
  2. The online application to graduate in October 2019 is open. Apply by July 31, 2019 to make sure your application is processed in time.
    • Your status will not be projected anywhere online, and we will only contact you directly if there are any issues with your degree audit. Read this “graduate in Oct” attachment for additional important details.
    • If you have applied to graduate and have not received an email from us during the audit process, you are all set to attend convocation and must go to the Convocation Website for further information on next steps and how to R.S.V.P.
    • If you are enrolled in Summer courses: Kindly inform the course director that you have applied to graduate, and that your final grade (this can be an interim grade) will need to be submitted by the April FGS deadline in order for you to convocate in June. The sooner you inform the course director, the sooner we can work together on getting your final grade posted on time.
    • If you are requesting to graduate with a Diploma be sure to follow the steps outlined in the “graduate in Oct” (here is “convocation-diploma” form mentioned in the attachment).

  3. Reminder for submission of all forms and to ensure they are accepted and processed:
    • Students are fully responsible for the download, completion, and submission of forms to their graduate program. Students must attach any correspondence that supports their request at the time of submission.
    • The Graduate Program in Education (GPE) office is unable to accept any incomplete forms, so be sure to have all required signatures (emails in lieu of) and required documentation in a complete package before submitting (hardcopy or email) any forms.

Events, Conferences and Workshops

  1. Korean Education Centre in Toronto presents an amazing event called “Study & Work in Korea College Fair Canada” for those interested to study and work in Korea. Click here for information.
  2. United Nations Call for Proposals: The Education for Justice (E4J) initiative holds a High-Level Conference at the Vienna International Centre (Vienna, Austria) from 7th to 9th October 2019 and is currently accepting submissions under Call for Proposals “Educating for the Rule of Law – Inspire. Change. Together.” Click here for information.
  3. Youth Conference: The Young People’s Theatre in Toronto holds ‘Children, Youth, and Performance’ conference, including a full-day of workshops, networking opportunities, panels, performances and round-table discussions for educators on Saturday June 15th 2019. Click here for information.
  4. Learning Skills Workshop & Summer Academic Support Programs: Workshop topics ranging from Boost Your Power, to Critical Thinking through on-line and drop-in support and academic couching. For details, please see May 2019 Workshop Calendar.
  5. Workshop on Systematic Review: Join York University Libraries for an interactive 3-day workshop that will teach faculty and graduate students about the systematic review process. Scott Library Training Camp for Graduate Students: York University Libraries is offering a free one-day research data training camp on May 30th 2019 for graduate students looking to learn the data management and research computing skills that can help them get more out of their research in less time. By getting hands-on experience with the different tools explored at the training camp, participants will walk away with a better sense of the data management options available to them through such sessions as: Managing Data and Research Materials Successfully, Data Cleaning with Open Refine, Data Cleaning with R, Citation Management with Zotero and Mendeley, and Version Control with Git and Github. To attend, reserve your seat at https://bit.ly/2Ukf0c2.
